Charlotte Leslie McIntyre (known as “Lotte”) - WW1 Nurse: 100 Years of WW1 Commemoration continues...

Charlotte Leslie McIntyre (known as “Lotte”)
22/248 – NZ Army Nursing Services Corp:

Born in 1887, Lotte was one of 4 members of her family who actively participated in serving her country in WW1. She grew up at Thornbury, Western Southland, and was the daughter of John & Catherine (nee Bath) McIntyre of “Rothiemurchus”.

Her brothers Charles and Ernie, plus her sister Kate, also actively served for NZ in WW1.

Lotte trained at the Dunedin Hospital.
She served a total of 2 years and 190 days with the Nursing Service, attaining the position of Staff Nurse, and working at the NZ Hospital, Brockenhurst, Hampshire, England. (below)

Lotte returned to NZ and passed away in Auckland on 21 February 1989, at the grand old age of 101. Lotte never married, but her Army record lists that she was also known as “Duncan”, but this MAY be an error, as it was her sister who married a Duncan. (Doing more research on this to see if I can confirm/deny).

The National Library of NZ has the below Oral History recording of an interview with Lotte and her experiences as a nurse in training and working during WW1, made not long before her death. (Details here):
